POLLENS

Seattle six-piece Pollens:
Is ensemble singing.
Is density and drone.
Is modal and polyrhythmic.
Is influenced by African trance
and contemporary choral music.

Originally the project of composers Hanna Benn and Jeff Aaron
Bryant, Pollens has since 2008 forged unique new sounds with a
fascinating blend of eastern and African sounds, anchored by thick
harmonies and strong pop hooks. Making music with anything at hand,
from samplers and computers to Javanese percussion and large choral
ensembles, their self-produced eponymous EP was released in 2010 to
wide acclaim.

In early 2011, the band coalesced in its current six-member lineup,
samples were discarded in place of a bassist, keyboardist, two guitars, live
drums and percussion, and vocals by every musician in the group. They
honed their performances into powerfully infectious choral indiepop parties,
making even the most cynical showgoers tap their toes, bob their heads
and hum the tunes the next morning.

Pollens spent August of 2011 in the studio with producer Charlie Smith
(Throw Me the Statue) recording Brighten & Break, their debut as-yet
unreleased full length. With instrumental contributions by Paris Hurley
(Kultur Shock) and Morgan Henderson (Fleet Foxes), the record is lush,
organic and very, very catchy.
